Folding a suit for travel can be a daunting task, especially if you want to ensure it arrives at your destination wrinkle-free and ready to wear. Follow these steps to properly fold your suit for travel:
- Prepare Your Suit: Start by ensuring your suit is clean and free of wrinkles. Remove any items from the pockets and unbutton the jacket.
- Lay the Jacket Flat: Lay the suit jacket face down on a flat surface, such as a bed or clean table. Smooth out any wrinkles with your hands.
- Fold the Shoulders In: Fold one shoulder of the jacket inward towards the center, aligning it with the jacket’s natural crease. Repeat this step with the other shoulder, overlapping it slightly with the first.
- Fold the Sleeves: Fold the sleeves of the jacket over the back, ensuring they lie flat and smooth. The cuffs should meet or slightly overlap in the center of the back.
- Fold the Bottom of the Jacket: Fold the bottom of the jacket up towards the collar, keeping the folded edges straight and smooth. This will create a compact bundle.
- Fold the Trousers: Lay the trousers flat with the creases aligned. Fold one leg over the other, ensuring they are evenly aligned. Smooth out any wrinkles.
- Fold the Trousers Again: Fold the trousers in half lengthwise, bringing the waistband to the bottom hem. Smooth out any wrinkles and creases.
- Pack Your Suit: Place the folded jacket on top of the folded trousers in your luggage or garment bag. If possible, place the suit in a garment bag to provide additional protection.
- Minimize Movement: When packing your luggage, try to minimize movement to prevent the suit from shifting and becoming wrinkled during transit. Place heavier items around the suit to provide stability.
- Unpack and Hang Immediately: Upon arrival at your destination, unpack your suit and hang it up as soon as possible. Use a garment steamer or iron to remove any remaining wrinkles before wearing.
By following these steps, you can effectively fold your suit for travel and ensure it maintains its crisp appearance until you reach your destination.
